Educational Flash Cards

The best time to use flashcards is said to be with children between the ages of 1-3 years old.

Flashcards are often used to show children pictures and meanings at the same time to help them associate the picture and the meaning.

In this article, we will introduce the benefits of using flashcards and how to use them with younger children.

Is the use of flashcards recommended for English (foreign language) learning?

The benefits of using flashcards with young children

The word “flash” in flashcard means “to show quickly”.

Teachers often use flashcards to show children the picture of words (such as animals, countries, station names) while saying the word out loud at the same time in a speedy manner. By repeating this action for an extended period of time, the child will memorize the words in association with the pictures.

Animal Flash Cards

The key is that the teacher follows the “1 card to 1 second rule” and says the words as he/she shows the flashcards.

Since the speed is fast, the brain remembers the words before the child begins to think about what they are learning.

Using this fact to their advantage, teachers are recommended to move at a fast pace so that as much information enters the child’s brain as possible.

Toddler Flash Cards

Through the use of flashcards, children learn everything from the alphabet to animals, foods and English vocabulary quickly and are able to take advantage of speed learning. Flashcards are beneficial as a learning tool that allows teachers/parents to input a large amount of information into a child’s brain quickly.

Explanation of flashcards and how to use them

Of the variety of flashcards available, flashcards targeted at young children often have a picture on the front side and a word on the back. Therefore, words that can be drawn as a picture are often used. For example, animals, fruits and verbs like “run”, “jump”.

Baby Flash Cards

Adjectives and adverbs are hard to draw so they are difficult to use on flashcards. The pictures on the flashcards need to be understood in 1 second so they should be easy to put into words.

It is best to use the same category of words when studying with flashcards. For example, when using animal flashcards, it is a good idea for the teacher to use words like dog, cat, elephant, lion, horse and swap cards in front of the children as fast as possible.

Teachers or parents should start with 10 cards at once and go through them in 5 minutes twice a day. Repetition is important so teachers/parents should make sure to create a fun learning environment for their child.

The toddler period is a good time to start learning English because it is easy for children to pick up words.

This is because they remember the information that comes in from their ears and eyes and do not stop to translate from Japanese to English. This is why using flashcards at this age is so effective.

Flashcards are a great way to help young learners visualize new vocabulary. These versatile tools can be used both in the classroom and at home to help children practice language. We believe in making learning fun and engaging, so rather than drilling kids by flipping through the cards, try playing games and doing different activities to keep their interest high.

Speech and Language

Here are a few simple and fun activities you can do with the mini flashcards. All of these activities are easily adapted to be used with various ages and group sizes.

Flashcards For Kids

TOUCH

Spread cards on the floor or table face up. Name one of the cards and the child places his hand on top of that card. If playing with just one child, slowly move your hand towards the card and the child must try to touch the card before you do! If playing with more than one child, the children can race to touch the card. Whoever touches the card first gets to keep it. To remove competition from the game, have one set of cards for each child.

WHAT’S MISSING?

Spread a group of 5-10 cards face up on the floor or table. Review the cards together with the child. Tell her, “Close your eyes,” and take away one of the cards. Next, say, “Open your eyes,” and ask, “What’s missing?” The child tries to guess which card is missing.

English Flashcards

FISHING

Make a fishing rod by attaching a magnet to a piece of string and then tying the other end of the string around a chopstick, unsharpened pencil, or ruler. Attach a paper clip to each mini card and then spread the cards out on the floor. Make a “pond” around them with a hula hoop or long piece of rope. Now it’s time to fish! Say, “Can you catch a ghost?” The child can try to catch the ghost by connecting the magnet to the paper clip. Each time you catch a card, name it. At the end, count all of the cards you have caught.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

CONCENTRATION

Print out two sets of cards and play a simple memory game. Choose 10 pairs of cards (you can use more or fewer to make the game more difficult or easier). Spread them face down on the floor or table. Turn over any two cards and name them. If they match, you can keep them and take another turn. If they don’t match, turn them back over and it is the next player’s turn. Continue until all the cards are gone. You can also play word matching to practice reading. Make a set of mini cards of just the words, and match them to the pictures.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

CHARADES

Place the mini cards in a pile face down on the table or floor. One person takes the top card, and without showing it, tries to elicit the word from the other player without speaking. For example, if the card is “rabbit,” pretend to be a rabbit by hopping around the room. Or, if the word is “lion,” pretend to be a lion by making a mane with your hands. If the other player can guess the word, it is his turn to take a card.

Kids flash cards

HIDE AND SEEK

Hide several of the cards around the room while the other players close their eyes. After all of the cards are hidden, ask, “Where is the snowman/candy cane/present, etc.?” Advanced students can practice prepositions of place, “Is it under the book? Is it on the table? Is it in the drawer? etc.” Or

As a parent, we stress on everything from teaching manners and etiquettes to self discipline and other important life skills when it comes to nurturing our children. However, we tend to forget that we need to set our children FREE and let them be one with nature so that they can progress naturally. Many of us feel that children are like clay and we need to mold them in a particular shape. But, we forget that nature also has a role to play.

Animal Flash Cards

Now, this brings us to the central idea; nature. We must teach our children the importance of Mother Nature and the true essence of the Earth Day. We have got everything from Mother Nature or our Earth; therefore it is the time for us to protect our Earth and give something back. How many times have we spoken to our kids about reusing and recycling the products? How many times have we planted the trees? Not a single time may be. For some, may be once or twice. However, we still have time to teach our children the value of going green and saving the environment.

Toddler Flash Cards

The best thing a parent can do is go for a nature walk with kids. All you have to do is just go for a walk and let children see and immerse in the natural beauty. Ask them to make a journal of what they saw when they went to a garden. This way, they will keep a record of not only plants and flowers but also the other small creatures and will portray the beauty of Mother Nature in their journal. The best idea is to tell them to create flashcard for different types of plants and animals. You can keep children busy by asking them to create flashcards. However, these days online flash card makers are available to help create flashcards instantly.

If you are creative, then you can make flash card game also such as matching the picture of a plant with the name of the plant. For this you need a separate flashcard. Another project can be planting a tree in front of the children and involving them in each and every activity right from sowing the seed to germination to growing of plants. While the plant grows into tree, your children will learn how the plants grow and how the shoots of the plant spring and how plants prepare their own food. Again, you can ask children to use flashcard makers for matching the parts of the plant with the functions performed by them.

Speech and Language

Aside from lesson plans, tests and quizzes, flashcards can be used as effective teaching tools especially for students in the primary section. Teachers may use flashcards for different occasions and various presentations. Thus, these free teaching resources entail more fun and learning for the children.

There are a lot of flashcard types available for teaching and learning at the same time. The first type of flashcard is the alphabet flashcard. Alphabet flashcards contain the A-Z of the alphabet. In each flashcard, additional pictures of objects which begin with the corresponding letter on the flashcard are printed. Most alphabet flashcards include the word, they portray. To cite an example, 'A for apple' is given and a nice image of apple is portrayed.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

Another type of flashcard is the number flashcard. Like that of the alphabet, number flashcards contain the number, number word, and number of objects which corresponds with the word and number. To cite an example, the number 3, with the word 'three' will be portrayed along with three prints flowers

Baby Flash Cards

Another common type of flashcard is the 'first word' flashcards. This type of flashcard contains the simplest, most familiar, and frequently used words by growing toddlers. Hence, first word flashcards are usually used by mothers at home, to teach their growing kids to say certain words, while on the process of learning how to talk. However, these flashcards only contain the word and photograph of objects.

These are only a few types of flashcards. Both teachers and parents can opt to use other kinds like animal, shapes and transportation flashcards,

Nevertheless, there is a wide array of free teaching resources available through the internet. The flashcards can prove to be a great way in enticing the attention of the students toward studies.

In the first 3 years of a child's life, they acquire most of their native language, and they do it with no textbooks, no drills, no flashcards, no explanations and no language software. They learn by interacting with people and their surroundings.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

How Do Kids Learn Language?

The first teachers in a kid's life are their parents and anybody else they can interact with. As kids start to become aware of the world around them, they begin to want to communicate. Talking is fun and it gets you what you want!

Kids seem to just absorb language, but it is actually much more complicated than that. Linguists believe that there is a build-in language apparatus programmed into the human brain. Because the brain is wired for language, all it takes is input. Once a kid hears language around them, the sounds, words and structures get plugged into this framework.

Language ability develops along with a child's overall mental and physical development, but without the constant language input around them, they will not become competent speakers of a language.

Educational Flash Cards

How Do Adults Learn Language?

Wouldn't it be nice if we could all absorb a second language the way kids do? A child who is exposed to two or more languages will pick them all up just as effortlessly. There is no genetic code that causes you to speak a certain language; it is all environmental.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

But adults can learn something about second language learning by looking at how kids learn. Kids have a totally different way of learning the grammar rules than adults do. Adults study grammar analytically. In many cases, we may study a language from the grammar point of view first, and only later begin trying to speak the language.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

With kids, it is exactly the opposite. Kids first hear the language, experiment with it, and internalize the rules rather than studying them. This method, by speaking and listening first and developing an intuitive sense of grammar, is what makes kids learn so effortlessly.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

But, without some direction from adults, they will make mistakes. There is some conscious grammar learning involved. For instance, kids will often misuse past tense verbs, by saying things such as "I goed to the pool," or "He falled down." What is happening here is that they have actually learned the rule too well, and need to be taught the irregular forms of the verbs such as "went" and "fell!"

A New Way of Learning a Second Language

Where to buy Flash Cards

For adults who want to learn a second language, it can all be a bit discouraging. Kids soak up language like a sponge. There are some linguistic theories that language learning gets tougher as you get older. Then again, some of us just seem better than others at learning languages.

The fact is that many adults have trouble with languages because they don't go about learning them the right way. Now the tables are turned, and we can learn something from our kids! They have a built-in aptitude for language, but we have our own resources for learning languages. Let's look at how kids do it...

Speech and Language

They are motivated. Communicating is fun for kids, and it's also a matter of survival. Put yourself into a situation where you need to use your second language to survive, and make studying and practicing fun.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

Kids learn by doing, but also need to learn the rules. For adults, this means that you shouldn't chuck your textbooks right away. Even if you plan to get out there and talk your way to fluency, keep those study materials handy for the little grammar quirks that won't be so easy to figure out.

Although kids learn most of their native language by age 3, they learn at different paces. Some kids are slower than others, and they shouldn't be compared. We all learn differently, and it may take some time, so go at your own pace.

Finally, one of the biggest challenges for adults is that we're learning a NEW language, which is totally different from our first language. In this language, the subject go here and verb goes there, and so on. You have to keep your mind flexible and open. This is one reason why kids learn so easily. You have to get out of your first-language zone to get into the second language.

Early education flashcards have always been extremely popular with parents, and even more so in recent times. You might remember learning with the use of flashcards in school or college and you'll know it is really one of the best ways to learn something. Now... professional education experts have made special early education flashcards to help put your baby on the right track. The 4 qualities they use in making these flashcard are:

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

Colour: You should always make sure that the flashcards are as colourful as possible. Children love colourful things and get more enjoyment from everything, including learning, when there are a variety of colours on show. Having lots of colours will help them attach themselves to the flashcard's meaning and will keep them from losing concentration.

Double-Sided: The reason the best flash cards come in a double-sided variety is simply because you will have more of them to show your child. Another use is so that one side can have a picture and the other side the written word. Whichever method is used by the makers of these early education flashcards means that you will have a much better product either way.

Pictures: Let's face it, kids are drawn to pictures in the same way a moth is drawn to light. Pictures grab a child's attention and help them focus on the task at hand - learning. Flashcards without pictures are fine, but never ever use them for your toddler as they will get bored and they will learn less. Also, make sure the pictures are not in black and white as these dull and children all prefer... you guessed it, colourful ones!

Preschool Flashcards

Types: It's best to find a brand of early education flashcards that have an entire range of educational topics. There's no point in find the perfect flashcard maker if they only have flashcards on African mammals. Make sure your preferred supplier has a wide variety of learning topics so that your child's knowledge can grow without limits.

If the early education flashcards that you have chosen have all these qualities then you can rest assured that your child will be learning a lot in no time flat. You can also be safe in the knowledge that an experience early education expert has worked on them and given them their seal of approval. The impact these will have on your child are immense - so congratulate yourself on a job well done. Now all you need to do is play with your child using those lovely early education flashcards!

Illustrations are among the best ways of teaching kids. It has been scientifically proved that kids respond more to images that are bright and colourful, much more than they do to sounds. This is because of the simple fact that light travels faster than sound. Hence our eyes are more receptive than our ears. We are more likely to remember seeing something rather than hearing it. This is also the reason why sometimes, we may forget someone's voice, but we can never somehow remember their faces.

Where to buy Flash Cards

The same principle can be applied while you are teaching your kids music. It is quite possible that in spite of putting in many efforts, kids may not be able to remember everything. Thus, you can make their memories much sharper with the help of Music Flashcards. These are very simple pieces of laminated cardboard that contain some beautiful illustrations of various musical questions. They are available for all kinds of subjects in music. The number of cards available is extremely vast and comprehensive. Thus, you can gather a very wide set, and have separate ones for each student depending on what he or she needs the most.

Music Flashcards must however be properly designed. Kids react best only to sharply defined and clear images the best. If you feel that you will not be able to make good ones yourself, or lack the time, you can download them easily from the internet. While teaching. You can conduct some simple quizzes, and hold up these flashcards of music in class, and ask your students to identify them. Even if students are not able to get them right at first, the image of the illustration gets embedded in their minds, and they find that they are able to recollect the names of the illustrations much better. You can use these cards to teach music theory, history and so on.

If you have ever tried flashing cards at a baby, especially cards with just some wriggly words or monotonous dots, then you are probably all too familiar with this complaint that many parents have: "When I try to do flashcards with my kid, his attention wanders after a while. I don't know what to do to sustain his interest and overcome his short attention span."

The first thing we want to say is this - Relax. Take a deep breath. And count three things you are thankful for, even if your baby could be wailing his little head off, throwing a tantrum and trying his best to break free from your grasp as you attempt to show him some flashcards (physical or digital in kind).

Picture Flashcards

Babies and young children naturally have shorter attention spans. That sometimes works to your advantage. (Remember the time when it was oh-so-easy to distract him from an undesirable goal simply by waving another toy in front of him?) But it is not so great when your goal is for him to focus on the flashcards. Here are some useful suggestions to help you and your kid overcome the challenge:

Choose a time in the day when your child is most alert. It could be after breakfast when he is all raring to go with full energy, or after an afternoon nap when he feels recharged, or even after a relaxing bath. When your kid is hungry, sleepy, or just plain moody, flashcards are probably the last thing you'll want to be showing him. Obviously, you'd be cranky too if I made you read a lengthy report at work when you are food-deprived and desperately need some shut-eye.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

Make lesson time a regular part of the child's daily routine. If you follow Point (1), you will probably find that there are small pockets of time in a day when your child has been satisfied with his milk/food and has had sufficient sleep. Set one of these invaluable windows of opportunity as flashcard time, and stick to it. When flashcards become a predictable part of your kid's routine, he will develop a sense of ease and comfort with them. He may even be the one reminding you that it's flashcard time, should you inadvertently miss the usual timing.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

If necessary, break up a lesson into short sessions to cater to your child's short attention span. Some children are able to sit through a full 15-minute flashcard lesson, whilst others could barely concentrate beyond the first 5 minutes. Well, in this case, have three sessions of 5 minutes each. If three sessions in a day are not feasible, then take three days to complete the entire 15-minute lesson. Take heart that as your kid becomes accustomed to the lessons, you will be able to extend them gradually from 5 minutes to a longer duration.

Finally, persevere! Parental patience is important; persevere with lessons even if you think your child is not paying attention. Even when your child is not looking, he could be listening and absorbing every sound and word you say. Remember: Your child does not need to show the obligatory frown or pull a solemn expression in order to show you that he is listening. Sometimes, even a quick glance in your direction means that the little one has absorbed what you are teaching, in that split second.

We enable you to teach your child using the latest technologies, offering you lots more convenience and effectiveness.

If your grade school kid does not know that Bismarck is the capital of North Dakota, you are not alone. According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress (also known as the "Nation's Report Card), only one in five elementary students is proficient in geography.

According to experts, this goes beyond not being able to locate Iowa on the US map. In an interview with the New York Times, David Driscoll, chairman of the National Assessment Governing board, said: "Geography is not just about maps. It is a rich and varied discipline that, now more than ever, is vital to understanding the connections between our global economy, environment and diverse cultures."

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

Given these far-reaching implications, a number of parents are now looking for ways to boost their children's geography proficiency at home using techniques that their kids will actually enjoy. If you're one of these parents, here are three creative and fun ways to teach your grade-schoolers US geography.

Traditional and Online Puzzles

Kids flash cards

Geography is all about space. So, why not let your kids learn about it spatially? There's a better chance for children to remember that Nebraska is located north of Kansas after they completed a US map puzzle compared to reading the information from a book. Puzzles are versatile learning tools. You can ask your kids to build the entire map. You can also build it yourself then remove a few pieces and test your kids if they can identify the missing states and their capital cities.

Likewise, there are a number of downloadable puzzles available online. The advantage of these virtual puzzles is you can download them on your smartphone or tablet PC and bring the fun and learning wherever you go - on the way to school, while waiting for your kids' dental appointment, etc.

Using State Souvenir Magnets

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

Magnetic home accessories have been used very limitedly. Well, here's a new one for you - use state souvenir magnets to teach your kids US geography. There are a number of stores out there where you can find full sets of state-shaped magnets that include all 50 states. You can even order online if you want. Most of these magnet collections can fit a standard-size fridge.

Use your creativity when using these magnets to teach your kids US geography. For example, stick five state souvenir magnets on your fridge, call your children to the kitchen and ask them to look at the magnets. If they can identify the capital and a few key facts about the states, then they can open the fridge and find a delicious reward waiting for them. Isn't this more fun than reading their school books?

Fun Learning with Flashcards

Educational Flash Cards

Using flashcards is another classic and tried-and-tested way to effectively reinforce learning at home. There are plenty of readily available flashcards that deal with the subject of US geography, but you can also personalize your own if you want.

The truth is, there's really nothing new with using flashcards. The fun will come from how you use them. For instance, you can put these flashcards in a box. Every day, you'll ask your grade-schooler to draw a card from this box. If he gets the answer right, there's a prize attached to each card, like watching TV for an extra 15 minutes. Again, the only limit here is your creativity.

It's highly possible that one of the reasons why elementary students perform poorly in US geography is because they find the subject boring. Make it more fun with the tips and tricks enumerated above.

The challenges of learning are that if it is enjoyable, the information is readily absorbed. Success with it, brings more motivation. If not, it'll be harder for students to process the given information. What better solution than to make learning an enjoyable and interactive experience by learning with flashcards? But as it is a rudimentary tool, not everyone may show immediate interest with it. This is where the work comes in.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

Learning with flashcards can be a fun and interactive educational experience for both children and adults. Flashcards are simple media of instruction used commonly for the basic education of children. But the employment of these educational tools can also extend to adult education.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

Using flashcards develops and improves retention of information and improves the connection of synapses. A flashcard's obverse side would usually contain a singular image of an object, organism, letter, word, or number depending on its use. Such minimalism in design allows a person to focus on the card's image when it is flashed. Sometimes, additional information that is written concisely is printed on the reverse sides of the cards. If the flashcards are particularly designed for guessing games, the information written on the reverse sides are answers or literal references of the images on the front.

Most teachers, lecturers and parents find that learning with flashcards is quick, direct, and hassle-free. Their diverse and colorful designs attract children and adults alike. The images printed on the cards and the manners in which they are used ("flashing of cards") stimulate the mind to quickly look for references to identify the flashed images. This is why flashcards are ideal to use as educational games.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

The real difficulty of a certain subject matter or problem can also be lessened by choosing flashcards of varying difficulties, or it can be made more unpredictably challenging by employing a random flash method. This is often used in testing individuals. Repetition is also employed in using flashcards. Such method gradually embeds in the viewers the flashed images and allows them to remember a specific image more.

One of the most important advantages of using flashcards is they are easy and fast to reproduce. Making flashcards can be your art project with kids, students and family members. With just crayons, color markers, paper boards, and scissors you can produce your unique set of flashcards that friends, family, or students can enjoy and learn from.

How many of us have had trouble putting our highly disregulated adopted children to bed at night? Though we are beyond most of the bedtime issues we used to have, I remember those days of wondering if we would ever get a good night's sleep again. Of course, there are many things we do to make our kids feel safe when it is time for sleep but Tim and I accidentally stumbled upon a "kill 2 birds with one stone" technique that we still use from time to time.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

We like to use everything we can to our own advantage--that only makes sense, right? Why not use your child's desire to stay awake as a way to get some more valuable teaching time in for the day? Many activities lend themselves to bedtime. Here are a few examples...

Gabriel was having a hard time memorizing his Math facts but HATED to do flashcards. We have some math games we played with him and he did at least one worksheet every day but he was still struggling and we knew flashcards were the best way to get those facts solidified in his brain. Tim started bringing the stack of flashcards to Gabriel's bedside at night and voila! suddenly, Math flashcards were very desirable. He would do as many as we wanted him to because he knew the more he did, the longer he got to stay awake. It worked like a charm!

Even with our oldest son, who doesn't have a trauma history, we have been able to get extra practice for Latin, Grammar, and Math in at night before bed. With him, he enjoys the quiet and the extra alone time with mom and dad so learning subjects that would be considered too hard during the day, suddenly become fun if they are done at bedtime. Who knew?

Here are 4 Activities you can do with your child at bedtime:

1. Spelling practice--take turns quizzing each other on Spelling words

2. Read historic fiction at night before bed as family reading or read each child his own book that coincides with your current studies.

3. Singing educational songs that practice skip counting, multiplication facts, or other drills

4. Have your child read you a bedtime story so he gets in his reading practice for the day.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/
Kids flash cards

We have started to use this concept in other ways since we discovered it. I often give history and science lessons over lunch--then, we clear the table and do an experiment or craft that fits with the lesson. Lunchtime provides time where kids are sitting at a table because they want to in order to eat, AND their mouths are full so you can actually get a lot of teaching time in for your auditory learners. Come on everybody--chew with your mouth closed! After lunch, you can reinforce the lesson with your experiment or craft.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

Anything that may normally be met with disgust can be moved to bedtime or the lunch table if you are creative enough. For instance, our kids don't like new experiences. They like to know what to expect, so when I first introduced the "Classic Kids" series of audio stories to them I didn't do it during normal "school" time, I started playing one of these wonderful CDs at lunch (when their mouths were full--remember, take what you can get and use it to your advantage!) and they were immediately hooked. If I had tried to set up the stories and made it look like a lesson, they would have squirmed and complained. As it is, they now request these CDs and even take them to their rooms to listen over and over again. How gratifying!

Educational Flash Cards

Pick one subject your child is struggling in and try to come up with a creative bedtime activity that will reinforce what he has learned. See how willing he is to jump in and learn when he feels he is getting "extra" time to stay awake. Ah, the art of being a parent...

A lot of college-bound high school students get completely stressed out about the college admissions process. In particular, the stress seems to really go up a few notches when there is discussion about GPA and grades. In this article, we're going to discuss some strategies that you can use to improve your grades and earn the GPA that you'll need to get into a top-notch college.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

1. Ask for Help - Teachers, Classmates, Friends, Private Tutors, etc.

Even though you're not in elementary school anymore, you don't have to go it alone. There are plenty of resources available to help you. If you're too afraid to ask questions during class, don't be afraid to stay after class to meet with your teacher. If he or she doesn't have time to answer your questions right away, I'm certain that they will set up an appointment to meet with you on a one-on-one basis.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/
Sight word Flash Cards

Also, you might want to get a "study-buddy." This could be either a classmate or friend that you meet with on a regular basis to study. Studying in groups can sometimes help you stay motivated and on task. Your goal should be to keep each other encouraged, particularly during mid-terms and finals week.

Picture Flashcards

If you can't find a "study-buddy" and your teacher just doesn't have time to give you the one-on-one assistance that you need, consider a private tutor. These can sometimes get costly, but depending on how bad you're struggling in your classes, it just might be worth it.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

2. Pay Attention - Take Good Notes, Sit In Front of Class & Participate

You'd be surprised how much of a difference it would make if you just tried a little bit harder to give your undivided attention to your teacher during class. I know that it's a lot easier to think about what's for lunch today or how you can't wait to see your girlfriend/boyfriend in the hallway in between class, but try to put those thoughts on the back burner if you can.

Here are some tips that might make it easier to pay close attention in class. Sit in the front of the class. I know the "cool" kids like to sit in the back row, but the closer you are to the teacher the less likely you are to lose focus. Also, you might feel more inclined to participate and get involved in the lecture. The more involved you are, the more you learn and the better you get at retaining information.

Additionally, don't be afraid to ask questions during class. Remember, no question is a dumb question. Besides, there's probably someone in the classroom who has the exact same question as you. Also, the better you understand the information, the better notes you'll be able to take.

3. Flashcards & Study Guides - Why You Should Use Them...

Toddler Flash Cards

Worried about your upcoming exam? Try creating flashcards to quiz yourself on key dates, topics, vocabulary words, etc. Writing things down on flashcards helps reinforce what you learned and better allows you to store the information in your long-term memory bank. If you don't like flashcards, how about study guides? A study guide is basically like an outline that you use to highlight the key topics on your exam. This will allow you to identify which topics you know well and which topics that you should focus on more closely prior to the exam. And similar to flashcards, writing things down in study guide format helps you commit the information to memory.

4. Get Organized - Clean Up

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

If your locker and bedroom at home looks like a zoo, it's a no brainer why your grades aren't as good as you would like them to be. Take some time to clean up your personal space. If you can't find your geometry book because it's buried at the bottom of your locker, chances are you won't do too well on the exam. Also, if you study in a clean area, you'll be less likely to get distracted by all the clutter.

5. Go To Bed

I know high school students like to stay up late at night to talk on their cell phones (oops, I mean to study...), but you need to get your rest if you want to be alert in your classes the next day. Don't get me wrong, you shouldn't be slacking on your homework, but try to set aside a certain amount of time dedicated to homework and studying when you get home from school. This will allow you to get to bed at a decent time. Granted, this won't always be possible...and that's okay. There will be times when you have a 10 page paper due tomorrow that requires you to be up a little later than normal, but try not to make this a habit.

If you start implementing these strategies into your life, you'll see an improvement in your GPA in no time. It's time to buckle down and take your education seriously...after all, this is your future that we're talking about!

Does your heart sink when your child comes home from school and announces that there's a school test on vocabulary or science? Over the last three years or so we've developed some strategies that mean I don't have a nervous breakdown when my son tells me he has to know thirty Latin words and fifteen French by tomorrow morning, or my daughter announces that there's a test on cells and she still doesn't know the difference between a white blood cell and a red blood cell.

Here are some of the methods we've found most useful.

1. Flashcards. Write the French (or Spanish or German) word on the front and the translation on the back. Put the flashcards, which can simply be small squares of paper, in a bag. Pull them out randomly. You can test the child in either direction: from the foreign into the native language or vice versa. It's been my experience that testing into the language, (for example, asking for the Spanish word for dog) helps lodge the word into the child's head more firmly.

2. Get the child to write out the words again and again. 'When I write stuff out over and over it makes it stick in my brain,' my son told me. Hallelujah. It's only taken us three years to persuade him that writing out is the best way for him to learn.

3. Try recording the child reciting his vocabulary list. This is fun. Listening to the tape again and again can lodge the words in the memory. Some parents even put the tape recorder under children's pillows while they sleep but I have always been too scared of waking them up. A good night's sleep is essential before a test, which brings us to:

4. Have a brief session just before the child retires for the night. Something wonderful happens to information stored in the brain overnight: it seems to glue itself in more securely.

5. Make a game of the task. Find a Snakes and Ladders, Monopoly or Ludo board and adapt it by putting flashcards onto it. If you land on a word you have to translate it, or give the scientific definition or meaning, If you can't, you go back to the beginning, or move five spaces back.

6. Write problem words onto the child's plate. If you're struggling with the spelling of a word, carve it into the Nutella on a slice of toast. Spell it out in peas or pasta. Surprise the child and make him or her laugh. Laughter relaxes the mind and makes it easier to learn.

7. Stick Post-it notes or small paper squares onto the furniture and doors of a house with the French or German or Spanish words for the objects on them. This works best over the long-term but can be very effective.

8. Set the timer for five minutes. Tell the child to learn five or ten (how ever many you feel is appropriate) words or science terms. Test them on the selected information. Set the timer for another five minutes. This breaks the task up into smaller segments and is less boring for the child.

Looking for a new way to get kids interested in learning the alphabet? Do your young students have energy to spare? Kinesthetic learning puts an emphasis on movement. It gets the heart pumping, faces smiling. The kinesthetic alphabet pairs each letter with a sound and a memorable gesture, a great way to help kids have fun while learning the ABCs.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

Quick Prep

You can make the cue cards as fancy or as simple as you like. The quickest way to approach the supplies situation is to make a card for each letter and draw a corresponding picture next to it. Draw an apple for A, ball for B, etc. Each letter will have a corresponding movement - biting into an apple for A while saying "a", bouncing a ball for B, "buh". You might have to get creative for letters like X (axe can work with a little explanation), and Q (quack, using hands to mime a duck bill).

Kids flash cards

Turn the flashcard creation process into a learning activity by collecting old magazines and letting the children help you cut out photos that correspond with each letter. Food, animal, and toy magazines offer a ton of possibilities for kinesthetic cues. Pretending to have an elephant trunk is fun for E and children love popping up from their seat for popcorn. You can choose the pictures and let the kids cut them out with safety scissors while explaining why each picture was picked.

How to Play

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

The game itself is straightforward. Hold up the cue card, say the letter together, and mime the motion while saying the phonetic pronunciation. The phonics help kids learn how to blend their letters when the time comes to start learning to read simple words. Make sure to get involved with the kinesthetic cues - kids love to see their parents and teachers moving around, having fun.

If your children already know the alphabet song, go through the letters in alphabetic order until each card is associated with the right phonic and motion. If your children do not already know the alphabet song, feel free do go in randomized order. Randomizing the order actually helps kids to learn the sounds and letters independently of one another, a method that many teachers swear by. Start spelling simple words of interest to the children like "mom" and "dad". Their first names are always a good choice too. Kids love to spell their names and the names of pets.

Some kids are kinesthetic learners by nature and others just love the excitement of physical activity. Some kids love games and others are just plain excited to start reading and writing. Active games are healthy for the mind and body - the kinesthetic alphabet is worth a try!

If you are considering your career with the United States Armed Services, then you will be required to take the military version of an entrance exam called the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery or ASVAB. In this article, I will show you how you can use flash cards to your advantage even if you have a schedule with no study time and are on a strict budget.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

The use of flash cards to study new material is a great way to save time because these can be studied anytime and anywhere. Picture this. You have a lot of information that you are trying to remember and you write them on little bits of paper. You keep these bits of paper in your pocket to refer to them throughout your day.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

Then you go about your daily life assuming that you have no time to take out of your day for actual studying. Perhaps you wake up in the morning, go through your morning routine and commute to work.

Where to buy Flash Cards

As you are commuting to work, pull out three or four flash cards and just look at the information you see. Study them. Memorize them. Put the cards back in your pocket. As you are going about your work schedule, you can think about the material that you have studied on the little bits of paper.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

When you take a snack break or a water break, pull out another card. Read the information and continue about your day. On your lunch break, same idea. As you're waiting for your food, study a another one. After you finish eating, study a flash card. When you get back to your desk, study a flash card.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

Throughout the day, you can find brief periods of five seconds here and there that you can pull out a flash card and look at the information. As you continue your regular routine, you can think about the information because you do not have to have the flash card in front of you to remember what you just read.

After work, you go home. Go through the same routine. You're commuting, study a few more cards. You get home, study flash cards. In between doing chores, preparing dinner, playing with the kids, whatever it is, you will have time to glance at one card here or there.

By the end of the day, you're probably exhausted having had zero breaks. However you will likely have gone through 10 or 20 flash cards in this manner and have essentially learned 30 - 60 minutes worth of study material without taking a single moment out of your day for studying.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

If you continue this on a regular basis over the span of two weeks, you will have studied the equivalent of 5 - 10 hours without actually sitting down with a book. Now obviously you will have to sit down with an ASVAB book to study for your upcoming exam. However, your studies will be a lot more focused given that you already have the background of the information that you have studied from your flash cards.

Homeschooling kindergarten kids can be an extremely rewarding experience. There are wonderful things to learn all around us especially outside of the classroom. Kindergarten children can learn the essential skills at home just as they do in public and private schools.

Picture Flashcards

There are many benefits to homeschooling. Since your home is a safe controlled environment your children are at less of a risk of getting hurt or sick. By skipping the morning commute will allow your child a less hectic environment. Rushing around to get ready and braving the morning rush hour traffic is not a lesson that needs to be part of the curriculum. This method of schooling also allows for alternate working schedules at home.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

In life, every minute is an opportunity to learn. At home there are endless ways to follow up on the kids' lessons. Family activities and even vacations can be planned around what your child is learning. There is no better way to teach a child than to immerse them in the lesson and teach them in all possible ways.

The costs of homeschooling your kindergarten kids can be significantly less than that of sending your child to private or public school. It seems that these days public elementary schools are requiring uniforms. This can be a costly expense. By making your own school supplies like flashcards and calendars at home you can save money. There are also many free online resources for new ideas and printable activities.

https://learningcardsforkids.com/

The only real disadvantage to homeschooling is that your child does not have constant social interaction. This can be remedied by scheduling organized learning activities during play dates. Doing so will provide your kids with an opportunity to focus around their peers as well as socialize and play.

Take this opportunity to teach your children at home with a curriculum that supports your morals and adheres to your schedule. The younger years with your children are the most important. Enjoy them more by homeschooling kindergarten kids at home.
